Why bioassay ( fish monitoring ) ?

Monitoring fish can respond to acute exposure of toxic or contaminated water.

  1. BIOASSAY method could respond quickly to unidentified or complex toxic materials, compared to chemical analysis.
  2. In fish monitoring BIOASSAY method, small fishes (juvenile fathead minnow, zebrafish, and Japanese Medaka) were used, which were designated by OECD, EPA, or ASTM.
  3. Monitoring fishes would behave abnormally to the specific low toxic concentration which cause the alarms. (Passed the witness test by Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government)
